My New Year's Goals

I refuse to call them my New Year's Resolutions, because no one seems to keep those.  So I'm calling them goals, and am hoping by putting them in writing, I'll actually do them. Here they go, in no particular order...

*Keep exercising.  I was really good this year about getting to jazzercise.  It's fun and I've met some really great women there.  I went to 193 classes last year, so my goal is 194 this year.  I should round it up to 200, but that just sounds like a lot, so I'll stick to 194.  Quick math, I need to go about 4 times a week.  Totally do-able.  (Now if I could cut out the wine/beer, homemade chex mix, the need to "help" my kids eat their Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day candy, etc...I may even look like I jazzercise that much.  But let's keep this simple, and worry about that goal for 2012.)

*Blog more.  I started this blog for my family/friends a few years ago and wanted to keep everyone up to date on what we were doing.  As I stated in my first blog post of the year...this is a new blog, new format.  And I really do want to keep up with it.  But I have another reason for wanting to blog more too.  More and more businesses are blogging, and the trend is just going up.  The company I work for has been toying with blogging.  But I have no idea what to blog about that would be remotely interesting to the customers (not that my personal blog is remotely interesting either, but...).   I'm hoping to "practice" blogging personally, and then start blogging for the company later this year.  Everyone wants to read "Musings of a New PTA Mom", right?

Brief Commercial break - If you are a parent, teacher and/or administrator...you want to check out www.Pay4SchoolStuffOnline.com.  Eliminate checks at school and pay for all your kids' stuff online.  Give time back to the teachers and make it easier on parents.  It's FREE for schools to use!  Nearly 100 PTAs are using it around the country... is YOURS?

*Get the house organized and stay organized.  If it doesn't have a place, it's outta here.  Either craigslist, trash, or donate.  Which leads to...

*Craigslist.  Put the ever-growing pile of stuff in the garage on craigslist and make some wine/beer money.  (see 'keep exercising goal' above)

*Donate.  Next time I go to the donation place on New Year's Eve, I need to remember to bring the ENTIRE lot with me.  Not leave half in the garage, and only bring the half that was growing in my bedroom closet.  Now I have a pile all ready for a 2011 donation, I just need to load it in the car and BRING IT THERE.

*Integrate cleaning in my daily life.  The house gets so behind, that I then have to spend hours cleaning at one time.  No fun for anyone.  I tried the spreadsheet of 'bathrooms on Monday, living room on Tuesday, etc'... but who really cleans the bathroom every.single.week?  And when I did have time to clean the bathroom, I didn't have time to do three bathrooms, so then I'd just feel behind and wouldn't even do the one.  So I'd like to get better about cleaning a little at a time.  Like when the kids clean up the playroom before they go to bed (yes, this really should be a separate goal itself), I should take the extra 2 minutes to vacuum the floor every few days.  Or when they are putting their jammies on, I should switch the laundry that is right outside their room.  This will most likely be the one goal that I will give up on first, but I'll try....

So it's January 7th...I've been to 4 jazzercise classes, I've blogged 3 times, the house is a mess, the craigslist and donation piles are still in the garage, and did I mention the house is a mess?  All in all, I'm not doing too bad for the first week.  :)  Check back in a few weeks and I'll give an update.

Happy New Year everyone!  I'd love to hear from you as to what your New Year's Goals/Resolutions are and if you have any advice on how I can attain my goals for 2011!
