Out and about in Raleigh

We have decided to explore one new thing each weekend, in an effort to get to know our new hometown. Last weekend we went hiking in Harris Lake Park. Liam had fun hanging out in the backpack ....and Keira did pretty well hiking (Daddy did have to carry her on his shoulders for a little bit). She especially liked walking around the lake and seeing all of the boats of fishermen. Unfortunately we didn't see any animals, but maybe next time.

This morning we visited the State Farmers Market in downtown Raleigh and picked up some great vegetables to make salsa tonight (plus a few herbs for our expanding window garden). The kids loved munching on fresh blueberries as we strolled around the market.

Keira turns two!

Keira turned two on June 21st and we had a family BBQ at the house...which turned in to a slumber party with all of the out-of-town guests! We bought the kids a playset for their birthdays, and it was quite the project for the men to put together. Keira and Liam love it, and we thank everyone again for all of their work during the weekend to get it built! (Click on the post title for more photos)

Trip to Brant Lake

The entire family had a great time at the lake house in the Adirondaks (upstate NY). We spent the first few days with just our family (and Oma and Pop Pop), and it was very relaxing. Then the Flowers family joined us on July 4th, and the Engelbrechts on July 5th. The kids had a great time playing and swimming with their cousins! With seven kids under the age of 5, it was amazing they were all in bed by 8:30pm each night and we were able to enjoy some adult time too! It was like herding cats to try to get a picture of the kids (on the new boat!)...but we did our best. Keira and Liam ended up wrestling towards the end of the photo shoot...he definitely holds his own with her these days. (Click the post title for more photos)
